Chevron deal with Atlas Energy latest in series of acquisitions involving Michigan Antrim Shale assets

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. — Chevron Corp.'s announced acquisition of Pittsburgh-based Atlas Energy, Inc. is just the latest in a series of significant acquisitions involving Michigan Antrim Shale natural gas assets that began in 1994 with the acquisition of Terra Energy LTD by CMS NOMECO for a reported $63.6 million and most recently saw Houston-based LINN Energy acquire Michigan natural gas properties in the Antrim Shale from HighMount Exploration & Production, LLC for a contract price of $330 million in late April 2010.
