LANSING, Mich. - The second auction sale of state of Michigan-owned oil and gas lease rights of 2010 did not come close to the historic records for total bonus bid and average per acre established at the May 4, 2010 auction - when bidders paid more than $178 million for the rights to 118,117 acres for a per acre average of more than $1,500 - but with a massive offering of more than 450,000 acres to pick and choose from, bidders at the Oct. 26-27, 2010 auction showed enough interest to drive the sale to the fourth highest ever in the state's 80-plus year history in terms of both total bonus and acres leased.
