EFFECT OF P-NITROBROMOBENZENE AND P-NITROANILINE ON ATPASE ACTIVITY OF CARP TISSUES

ATPase activities of carp were measured by chemical method and the results were subject to single-factor analysis of variance. Under normal conditions, it was proved that the differences in ATPase of gills and kidneys from different groups of fish caught at different seasons and acclimated under 14 +/- 3 degrees C for 4 to 7 days were not significant (P < 0.05). Then tests of the effects of p-nitrobromobenzene (P-NBrB) and p-nitroaniline (P-NAn) on ATPase of carp tissues in vitro were carried out. The results showed that P-NBrB and P-NAn caused fairly strong inhibition of ATPase of carp gill and kidney. Satisfactorily straight lines were obtained by plotting the probits of inhibition percentage of ATPase against the logarithmic concentration of toxicants. The concentrations of P-NBrB and P-NAn required to effect 50% inhibition of ATPase in carp kidney were 12.84 and 48.61 mg/liter, respectively. (C) 1995 Academic Press, Inc. [References: 21]
