GLADWIN COUNTY, Mich.-Activity developments on potential or emerging unconventional resource-type oil and gas plays in Michigan are currently spread across at least three geologic horizons-the Ordovician Utica-Collingwood, and the Silurian Niagaran and A-l Carbonate.On the Utica-Collingwood front, Encana Oil & Gas (USA), that play's most active operator to date, reportedly had disappointing results from a 30-day test on its most recent Cheboygan County prospect, the vertically drilled State Wilmot 1-21 (SL: SE NW SE, Sec 21-T33N-R3W, Wilmot Twp., Cheboygan Co.), which reached total depth in mid-June.The well was fracture stimulated shortly after completion of drilling, and while complete test results from a 30-day test are not yet available, Office of Geological Survey field geologist Andrea Sullivan reported this week that the well made no oil during the test and very little natural gas.
