Zirconium titanate ceramic powder was prepared by an electrochemical synthesis from an aqueous solution based on a water-soluble precursor. X-ray diffraction (XRD) studies showed an amorphous initial formed material. The effects of progressive treatment were determined by differential thermal analysis (DTA), termogravimetric analysis (TG), X-ray diffraction, XRD, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The removal of physically and chemically bonded water was observed after about 100 deg C. Crystallization of zirconium titanate occurs at low temperature (approx 600 deg C), giving rise to spherical regular particles (diameter of approx 1.8 mu m).
