The introduction of the above automation and furnace regime control system has resulted in a 9 percent increase in production from 166,000 to 181,000 t/year. Surface quality has been improved through a modified burner and an optimized thermal regime. Finally it has paved the ground for new product grades. Strip viewing at critical locations has reduced off-centerline running. Close monitoring of the process is enabled by the PLC based data acquisition system.
