Hybrid Machine will Combine Wire-Cut EDIVS with Waterjet

Citing favorable response at both IMTS and JIMToF last fall, Sodick Co. (Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan) has forged plans for starting commercial production of hybrid wire-cut electrical-discharge machines equipped with water-jet technology. Assembly is slated to begin soon at Sakai City, Fukui Pref, Japan, where the company's high-end EDMs are turned out. So-dick will juggle factory ops so that, starting in August, five units per month can be produced, and probably 10 per month in another year. Should the hybrids enjoy full user acceptance warranting larger output, the production would likely be to be shifted to Sodick (Thailand) Co. at Klongneung Klongluang, Patum.
