Realtime simulation of the behaviour of plants, including their production processes, allow substantial cost savings, as well as strongly reduced risks and time requirements when building, modernizing and commissioning industrial plants.In this way, just 12 months of engineering and 2 months of simulation and testing were needed to modernize Rasselstein's 6-stand tandem mill. After a downtime of only 17 days the tandem mill went back into operation with the completely renewed automationand control system.Full production was achieved in 5 weeks. The thickness deviation was, in almost all cases, less than 0.6% whilst this value had still been in the order of 1.2% prior to modernization.
