Mannesmann Demag Huttentechnik has developed the SecMet system for controlling the VOD process. It enables monitoring of the decarburization process and controls the carbon, oxygen and chromium contents as well as the important process parameters. The SecMet automation system. New technologies in secondary metallurgy have opened further possibilities for closely controlled quality steel production. For optimal process control, supervision and management computerized automation systems have become a necessity. The metallurgical possibilities and limitations of the various process lines for the production of low-carbon austenitic and ferritic special steels lead to problems which can only be adequately solved by a modern concept of computerized process automation. An optimal process control and automation system SecMet has been developed by Mannesmann Demag Hiittentechnik.
