On-line detection, identification and visualization of surface defects

In today's highly competitive marketplace, increasing demands are being placed on manufacturers to improve quality, increase productivity and certify defect-free product. US-based Cognex Corporation developed their SmartView Metals Surface Inspection System to meet these goals. It offers comprehensive inspection by reliable real-time defect detection, classification and visualization. Cognex systems inspect over 250 million m~2 of metal each day. MPT asked Dr Markku Jaaskelainen, Senior Vice President at Cognex, to explain today's challenges in the surface inspection business confronting users and suppliers alike. Cognex introduced the SmartView Surface Inspection System in 2000. What are your customers' aims, approaches and requests today?
