Strengthening the competitiveness of seamless tube mills through technological process control

A characteristic of a seamless tube plant capable of remaining competitive even under difficult market conditions is inter alia the ability to manufacture tubular products with specific dimensional requirements cost-effectively even in small quantities. The technology of the rolling processes (figure 1) plays a key role in achieving high profitability and a high product quality. The demands on technological production planning and performance include precise advance calculation of the setting values for close tolerances, defect-free rolled products and exploitation of the capabilities of the production plant in order to be able to reliably manufacture even difficult product sizes. In the process, tool costs have to be minimised and material yield maximised.
