Damping measurements were performed toexamine the damping behavior of foamed aluminum(FA). It was found that the damping capacity of FAis higher than that of its parent metal, and themajor contribution of pores to the damping of thematerial is to raise the internal frictionbackground, particularly at elevated temperatures. The damping mechanisms can be interpreted by thenonuniform stress and strain distributionsoriginating from the inhomogeneous pore structuremorphology, the number of boundaries formed by thepores, the high density of defects, and their movement and interaction.
