CCCMC calls for co-operation to tackle human rights abuses in DRC artisanal cobalt mining

The China Chamber of Commerce of Metals, Minerals and ChemicalsImporters and Exporters (CCCMC) has condemned the use of childlabour and human rights abuses in the artisanal cobalt industry inthe Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).In a letter published both on the CCCMC’s website and on news siteGuangming Daily, the CCCMC responds to Amnesty International’sreport on the issue and promises to carry out an investigation toidentify key links between the cobalt supply chain and “existingresponsibility risks”, and to develop a system of “due managementof the supply chain of minerals, including cobalt” based on its ownguidelines.
