AMNESTY REPORT: Huayou Cobalt admits prior lack of awareness on human rights protection; vows to address issue

Huayou Cobalt has admitted to customers that it “lacked sufficientawareness for the protection of human rights”, in a notice seen byMetal Bulletin.Zhejiang Huayou Cobalt Company, known as Huayou Cobalt, alongwith subsidiary China Dongfang Mining International (CDM), was atthe centre of a recent Amnesty International report, outliningallegations of child labour and other human rights abuses in theartisanal cobalt mining industry in the Democratic Republic of Congo(DRC).
