PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) continues to be in talks with thegovernment about the extension of its export permit which expireson January 28, a spokesman told Metal Bulletin on Monday January25.In order for PTFI to get a six-month extension to continueexporting copper concentrates, the company will be required to pay5% export tax and put another $530 million into an escrow accountto show that it is committed to building a smelter, local mediaquoted government officials as saying.
