UK researchers predict Chinese tin production will fall in 2001

UK based research group Tin Technology said that Chinese tin production is likely to fall by at least 20,000 tonnes in 2001 compared to 2000. A delegation from the group met with representatives from Minmetals, Yunnan Tin, China Tin and various government officials in order to discuss the current state of over-supply in the market.Anthony Turner of Wildshaw Ltd, who was part of the Tin Technology delegation, said that due to rising stocks and falling prices many Chinese producers have already trimmed their output. He said production this year will be limited to between 80,000 and 90000 tonnes, compared to around 112000 tonnes in 2000, and noted that "Chinese consumption is growing well and should reach 45,000 tonnes this year compared to about 40,000 last year."
