Following the country's recent accession to the World Trade Organisation, China has moved quickly to cut import tariffs on iron and steel products.Beijing has pledged to trim import tariffs on all products, to varying degrees, from the turn of the year. The majority of steel products currently subject to import duties, including cold rolled sheet, hot rolled sections and seamless tubes, will be subject to a single cut to be enforced from the beginning of 2002. Other products, particularly stainless steel, will instead see the reductions phased in over three years.
