Russian mills look to supply EU carmakers

Russia's Novolipetsk Iron & Steel Works (NLMK) has signed a letter of intent with Ford Motor Co for the supply of cold rolled sheet to Ford's car assembly plant in Germany. Rolled sheet from NLMK is also likely to be used for the production of the Ford Focus model, which will be produced at a new plant to be built at Vsevolozhsk near St Petersburg (MB Jan 13).A spokesperson for NLMK declined to specify the agreed volume to be shipped to Germany, but said it would not be sizeable initially. "So far, we have reached agreement only about shipping trial consignments," she said.
