Some UK ferrous prices weaken for March, others steady

UK ferrous scrap prices have fallen for the second consecutive month after negotiations between buyers and suppliers settled March supply contracts. After a fall of a couple of pounds in January, prices have dropped by pound 2 per tonne for grades 1, 2, and 7, as well as cast iron borings 11A. All other grades including shredded and bales remain unchanged. As MB went to press there were one or two settlements still to be completed, but most observers believe that prices will remain in line with those already settled.The fall in price may come as a disappointment to suppliers, but no surprise as buyers have been keen to reduce levels after an excitable start to the year. One major merchant said market levels have come into line with the export price which "has dipped a bit" in recent weeks.
