Vastly Different Types Of Perforated Panels Make Apearance On Vastly Different Projects

Both the form and function of perforated metal panels are on display in a pair of vastly different projects involving products manufactured by Firestone Metal Products/UNA-CLAD of Anoka, MN. In Louisiana, a perforated version of the company's UNA-FAB Series 3000 aluminum plate panels was used in conjunction with the company's Series 2000 honeycomb wall panels on the exterior of the Louisiana State Museum in Baton Rouge. Both types of panels were formed from clear anodized aluminum. The honeycomb panels have .040" skins while the plate panels are .125". The 13.4 million dollars, 71,000 sq. ft. museum was designed by Eskew + Dumez + Ripple of New Orleans, and is located within the Capital Complex. Though many of the exhibits inside relate to the state's past, the museum's exterior design is completely contemporary. Besides satisfying the architect's aesthetic intentions, the metal panel systems met performance requirements relating to durability, maintenance and life expectancy.
