摘要

Highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) has contributed considerably toward decreasing morbidity and mortality from human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-related diseases over the past 2 decades. At the same time, however, use of HAART has also been associated with metabolic complications including hyperinsulinemia and insulin resistance, dyslipidemia (hypertriglyceridemia, reduced high-density lipoprotein [HDL] cholesterol, and increased total and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol concentrations), as well as body fat redistribution (lipody-strophy) [1,2]. All these metabolic abnormalities may in turn increase risk for cardiovascular disease [3].
