Petrobras axes cutting edge riser tender

BRAZILIAN state-controlled Petrobras has returned to the drawing board after cancelling a tender for a pioneering titanium riser solution to serve a pair of giant pre-salt fields in the country's prolific Santos basin. Petrobras offered an engineering, procurement, construction and installation contract designed to replace old and potentially compromised flexible pipes in the Buzios and Tupi fields with more resistant rigid risers made of titanium. Upstream has previously reported that Italy's Saipem edged out rivals to come out on top in the tender - pegged at about $1 billion - but Petrobras engineering, technology and innovation director Carlos Travassos said the bidding competition has been cancelled.
