Whilst looking at species distribution in Desmond Cole's monographs (Cole, 1988, 2005), I was intrigued by the apparent closeness in geography between L.meyeri L.Bol (1932) and L.geyeri G.C. Nel (1943). L.geyeri is named after Dr. Albertus Geyer, onetime South African High Commissioner to London, and is a member of the so-called Yellow White Centre (Ywc) group, named for the colour of the flowers. Like the other members of this group, it has a generally greenish-greyish body colour and a relatively deep fissure or cleft between the leaves. It grows in the area of Namaqualand called the Richtersveld, to the east of its neighbour, L.herrei. Indeed, L.geyeri is regarded by some to be L.herrei var. geyeri (G.C. Nel) de Boer & Boom (1961). Brian Fearn (1981) was of the opinion that var. geyeri is simply a 'geographical form' of L.herrei. Also included in Cole's concept of L.geyeri is L.hillii L.Bol (1958). L.geyeri is said to be 'rare' in the wild, according to Smith et al (1998).

Nel)de Boer&Boom(1961)。 Brian Fearn(1981)认为var。加耶里(Geyeri)只是赫雷杯(L.herrei)的“地理形式”。科尔的L.geyeri概念中还包括L.hillii L.Bol(1958)。据史密斯等人(Smith et al,1998)称,盖氏乳杆菌在野外是“稀有”的。
