Leaving aside the matter of the controversial style of writing, Professor Des Cole's article on the epithet gesinae was of interest to me because there is now need to correct the entry in the book Etymological Dictionary of Succulent Plant Names, which Urs Eggli and I produced last year. The name of Dr. de Boer's wife must be corrected from Mrs. Gesina de Boer-Weyer to Mrs. Geessien ('Gesine') de Boer-Weijer. That much is clear, but there is still the question of the exact spelling of the epithet based on her name — gesinae versus gesineae.
