Over the last century, manufacturing capacity has increased so much that - to paraphrase V. I. Vernadsky - industry has become a geological force comparable to nature itself. Billions of tons of minerals are mined each year and, as a result of manufacturing operations, are redistributed over the surface of the Earth along with their constituent chemical elements. The study of the laws that govern the movement of chemical elements due to natural processes and industrial activity (the construction of element flows) is of practical as well as scientific interest. Knowing these laws can help determine where the elements are concentrated in amounts sufficient for commercial use. That is very important, given that the supply of natural resources is continually being depleted. Moreover, if an element or one of its compounds is environmentally hazardous, such information will make it possible to monitor their adverse effect on humans and the environment. However, performing such large-scale studies requires considerable time and material resources. That, and the lack of a generally accepted method of constructing element flows, is why no complete studies of this nature have yet been completed. Here, we will generalize data from different sources to analyze element flows for chromium - one of the most common elements on Earth [1].
