One of the main components of continuous-casting machines (CCMs) is the mold. The most important requirements established for the material of the mold's walls are high thermal conductivity and good wear resistance. Proceeding on the basis of the first requirement, designers have used copper for the walls of the molds. Such molds have a service life of 100-150 heats. The most promising direction being taken to make the walls of copper molds more wear-resistant is the application of coatings of chromium, nickel, and alloys based on these two elements. The coatings are applied by chemical, electrochemical, electrolytic, laser, and plasma methods [1].
