An increase in the power of ferroalloy furnaces is accompanied by an increase in the current in the electrodes and a significantly smaller increase in voltage. These changes decrease the power factor and electrical efficiency due to a decrease in the electrical resistance of the furnace bath. Analytical relations, modeling, and smelting in ferroalloy furnaces are used to show that the power of these furnaces can be increased just by increasing the resistance of the bath and the voltage, with no changes being made to electrode diameter or current. The energy parameters of the furnace are improved as a result of these modifications.
