Muller et al. in this issue of Free Radical Biology and Medicine report a previously unrecognised phenotype in mice lacking GuZriSOD: a rapid acceleration of age-related loss of skeletal muscle mass . Furthermore they present evidence that this is associated with severe oxidative stress in muscle and deficits in motor performance, the combination of which they claim "resemble an acceleration of normal age-related sarcopenia."#
