With another isotope shortage causing them grief, nuclear medicine practitioners appear worried enough to look beyond short-term workarounds to long-term solutions. Some nuclear experts are exploring how the world became so dependent on so few reactors. This problem has been of great concern since May, when the reactor in Chalk River, Ontario, went off-line due to a heavy-water leak.
