Again we must report the disappointing performance of Japanese consumption, which is continuing to struggle to find definitive direction with major end use sectors showing quite different trends. For example, copper wire and cable shipments fell 0.5 percent in February from a year earlier to 77,000 tonnes, according to preliminary data from the Japanese Electric Wire and Cable Makers' Association. While the smaller brass mill sector in Japan has continued to perform well. Rolled copper product output in February totalled 97,632 tonnes, up 13.5 percent from the same month a year earlier and up 4.3 percent from January, preliminary data issued by the Japan Brass Makers' Association showed.
