The search for the genetic architecture of schizophrenia has been extremely difficult despite its high heritability, mainly because of the substantial lack of reliable core phenotypes tracking the transgenerational liability to the disorder [1]. Such phenotype would also significantly improve the delineation of subjects at enhanced risk of transition to psychosis in the context of early detection and intervention programs [2].
