the freight MARKET saw rates for panamaxes firm on the back of both healthier recent US coal shipments and increased grain shipments out of South America.Daily average earnings for panamaxes rose from $8,277 two weeks ago to $9,264 by the end of last week, then climbed further to $ 11,882 by the end of this week.Brokers expected the heightened levels of grain exports, which were mainly for movements from South American into east Asia, to continue until around the end of May and early June.In contrast, the ongoing slump in the capesize dry bulk market was only slightly mitigated by the recent slight uptick in demand.
