The fall in Scandinavian hydro levels has seen a stong return to the market by buyers in the region and Danish utility buyers now accept the possibility that they could be in for a repeat of 2003, when imports jumped almost 3mt to 9.1mt. Last year Danish imports were 5.2mt. However, one Danish generator points out that "we have had lots of rainfall over the last 2-3 weeks, so we can't know for sure yet" if this increase will materialise. Danish imports in the first half were slightly over 2mt ahead of last year's unusually low level, at 4.2mt. Buyers confirm that they have already been much more active in the market while both DONG and, to a much lesser extent, Vattenfall look set to cover more for the winter. DONG is understood to be still in the market for Q4 tonnes and is currently expected to book up at least 300,000t more. Both are expected to be out in Q4 for Q1 supplies
