Peabody's Oz earnings up as flood recovery flickers

US-based Peabody Energy's Australian mines reclaimed their position as the company's top profit-earning division in the three months to the end of June, as shipments began to recover from Queensland flood impact earlier in the year. A Peabody statement showed the company's gross profit (EBITDA) for the latest quarter hit 579.5m dollars, up 31.6% on 440.1 m dollars for the same period in 2010, despite a slight dip in overall coal sales to 58.2m short tons (st), 2.5% lower year-on-year against 59.7mst previously.
