Based on the thermal conduction equation, the three-dimensional (3D) temperature field of a work roll has been analysed by FEM, and the temperature variations on the roll surface have also been described in hot strip rolling. Daring rolling, the highest roll surface temperature was 593℃, and the maximum temperature difference of the roll surface was 536 K. At the end of the rolling interval, the corresponding values were 63℃ and 31 K, respectively. The calculated results were found to be in good agreement with the measured values. Such analysis is effective and beneficial for investigation of the work roll thermal stress and thermal fatigue in hot strip roiling.
