'An AS/A2 level in Materials lends itself to a more practical approach to new developments in science and technology. The applied nature of the course may well encourage students to study materials at university, two may otherwise have not considered it an option. The two meetings at the Institute in London produced much discussion as to how the course should be taught and assessed. With the support of the Institute's Education Department, schools should be able to introduce the course so as to attract a broad spectrum of students.'
