Deformed Structure and Crystal Orientation at Deformation Bands in <011> Aluminum Single Crystals

To clarify relationship between activate slip systems and formation of recrystallized grains along deformation bands (DBs), structural changes for 3 to 70 percent tensile strains in 99.99 mass percent aluminum single crystals with a tensile axis of were investigated first of ail in this paper. Above 15 percent strains, the DBs were formed, and two different types of pseudo-boundaries which appear "straight" (SPB) and "wavy" (WPH) ones were observed between the DBs and deformed matrixes (DMs). The authors classified the DB as "a special type of band of secondary slip" (SBSS). The development of SBSS structure occurred simultaneously due to two processes, the increase of the number of SBSS and the migration of the WPBs. The "secondary deformation bands" (SDBs) called by the authors started to form along the WPBs at 70 percent strain. Dynamic recovery in the SDBs near the WPB might occur at 70 percent strain in deformation, because of operation of the third and/or fourth activated slip plane (s) in addition to the preexisting operation of the two slip planes. The effect of changes in deformation structure on recrystallization behavior will be reported elsewhere.
