The phenomenon of the electrochemical noise is already known for some decades. With the growing technical possibilities in the fields of electronic measuring devices and recording techniques, a new window of observation has been opened to observe and record smallest charge fluctuations from dynamic corrosion processes. The main advantage compared to other electrochemical techniques is the contemporary and sensible way of getting information from the beginning of and the tendency to corrosion. This is also the basis for applications for corrosion testing and examination. In this paper, it is shown in the example of the determination of critical pitting temperatures (CPTs), how a conventional testing method can be improved by these advantages. The prerequisites concerning the measuring technique, the experimental procedure and the assessment of the measured data are shown as well as some fundamental and technical restrictions, which have to be taken into account.
