The corrosion and inhibition of carbon steel in multiphase flow were examined by Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) and Electrochemical Noise (ECN) methods. It is found that the corrosion in slug flow is higher than that in full pipe flow. For the inhibitor tests, the experimental results show that the corrosion inhibitor has a better performance at longer exposure time and higher inhibitor concentration. Comparison with full pipe flow, slug flow degrades the inhibitor performance and increases the corrosion rate. The results from this work show that both EIS and ECN are the practical techniques in monitoring of corrosion and inhibition for pipeline steel in multiphase flow.
