Higgs interprets the Vischkuil Formation, the overlying ~800 m of fine grained sandstones interbedded with mudstones of the Laingsburg Formation and also the ~400m thick partly time-equivalent Skoorsteenberg Formation (Fildani et al, 2007) exposed in the Tanqua depocentre 100 km away to be entirely derived from river-fed hyperpycnal flows in a continental shelf setting.
