Honey Bee Losses - Survey 2015-16

Ih the Fall of 2015, we were already anticipating that this year's wintering losses were going to be higher than last year's losses. The reason being that many beekeepers were reporting higher levels of varroa mite in the fall then they have seen in the past few years! So it was not surprising to see a lot of variability in the reported losses. Last year's 14% wintering loss average was on the low end of the typical range in wintering losses of 15% - 25%. This winter, the average winter loss including spring culls was 21.3%. This is considered on the higher side of the winter loss range!
