CHANGES over recent years to the Export Market Development Scheme (EMDG) have turned many exporters away from marketing in new countries. According to Gary Cronin, chairman of the Export Consultants Association Ltd (ECAL), previously agreed reimbursements have been reduced by up to 20,000 dollars in recent times, ruling out many companies claiming grants for new markets. "A lot of Hcompanies are now focusing more on the domestic market," he said. Cronin believes up to 25 percent of exporters who would have been eligible were excluded or discouraged from claiming by the changes.
