The National Archives is the repository for UK government records and tontains over 1,000 years of history. Our major current thallenge is finding new and intuitive ways of making our collection available online. This artitle is about the approach wehave taken to tatkle this. The National Archives' Catalogue, launched over 10 years ago, provides a free online search facility for our collection. When it was launched, the Catalogue was one of the first of its kind in the world and it opened up accessto a much wider online audience. Since its launch in 1998, the number of entries has doubled from 5 million to the 11 million we have in the Catalogue today.
