The majority(85%)of Gaboniscovered with relatively intact tropical rain for ests and thus much of Gabonesem ammalian faunais composed of forest specialists (Lauranceetal.2006). Reports of spotted hyena have mostly come from savannah habitats, withfew(oranabsenceof) confirmed report swithin primary rain forests (Mills and Hofer1998).
