It took a lot of research and a five-year marketing plan to help John and Linda Rossignol turn their dream into a reality. The couple worked many long hours researching and testing which varieties of grapes would survive and thrive in PEI's cold winters. Producing wine is some-thing new to Prince Edward Island. Although it has success as a niche industry , it was not until 1994 that John and Lynn Rossignol opened PEI's first winery, Rossignol Estate Winery in Little Sands, in the eastern end of the province. According to the Rossignols, it took a lot of research and a five-year marketing plan to help them turn their dream into a reality. The couple worked many long hours researching and testing which varieties of grapes would survive and thrive in PEI's cold winters. They also sought out those growers capable of supplying their product needs.
