Getting to grips with WEEE - Understanding the regulations will help reduce your environmental impact and avoid costly fines

In January 2007, the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) regulations came into force. Since then, thousands of businesses have registered with a WEEE compliance scheme; and by financing the treatment and recycling of WEEE, they are demonstrating that 'green' issues are rising up the industry agenda and are making a real difference to the environment. Whether your business manufactures electrical or electronic equipment, or even simply uses electrical equipment - from heavy-duty machinery to photocopiers - you need to be aware of the WEEE regulations. New research by the Environment Agency shows that 76% of businesses questioned are aware of the WEEE regulations; and while the research shows that a significant majority of these businesses believe that disposal of electronic and electrical waste in the UK is a major problem, it also reveals that there are still some worrying misconceptions about the regulations.
