The fabrication of a Gooch filter in the fastest way possible while maintaining precise dimensions without having to measure anything. In the analytical lab in the Chemistry Department at McGill University, we use large quantities of Gooch crucible filters for teaching analytical chemistry. For example, in one of those teaching experiments, a residue or precipitate in a solution is collected and filtered through a Gooch filter, then the solid remaining (in this case, silver chloride) is weighed precisely by the student to calculate the original concentration of chloride from the unknown sample provided.
