Measuring Small Hole Diameters

Determining bore size or nozzle diameter, especially in sizes less than 2mm, is not always an easy matter. I have had good success with several methods that I would like to share. One very accurate method is to use a nozzle gauge. A nozzle gauge has a tapered needle and a vernier scale which allows you to measure to the nearest hundredth of millimeter, this is also a very quick method. However, it does require that there be sufficient material around the bore for the gauge to seat against. The nozzle gauge is not cheap, around 100 dollars.
