Tool grinding and inspection: Tooling manufacturer's success is down to high-quality output and a responsive service

Ray Talbot, technical director at the specialist tooling supplier Industrial Tooling Corporation (ITC), says: "Because customers increasingly want cost-effective high-quality tooling -and regrinds - in extremely short delivery times, we have to be in a position to respond." The Tamworth-based company, which specialises in the design, manufacture and regrinding of a wide range of HSS and carbide tooling and is also a stockist of products from Hanita (Israel) and Metal Removal (USA), has seven Walter CMC Helitronic tool grinders and a Walter Heli Toolcheck tool-measuring machine, which are available in the UK from Kor-ber Schleifring UK Ltd, Kenilworth (Tel: 01926 485047). The latest Helitronic Power tool grinder was supplied complete with a production loader, which can accommodate and randomly process 280 tools up to 32mm in diameter and 220mm long. This machine complements ITC's use of three other auto-loading systems on Walter machines, and therefore ware as another crucial weapon in his tool-grinding armoury. Designed to provide savings in cutting-tool design and production by allowing non-standard new tools to be designed and 'manufactured' off-line, the software eliminates the need for time-consuming and costly prototypes, test batch work and interruptions to production.
