UK manufacturing remains the second largest value-added sector of the UK economy; core manufacturing has accounted for an unchanged 11 per cent of all jobs since late 2005 (just under 3 million), The CBI estimates that a further 3 million jobs are dependent on manufacturing- 6 million UK jobs in total (nearly a quarter of the total workforce). And manufacturing companies account for just over half of all UK exports, making it critical to the overall UK balance of payments.
